Details of coaching/mentoring program |
We have a coaching and mentoring program, which is evolving to suit our lawyer's needs. The goal of the program is to provide associates with coaching to work through barriers in their career and focus on career development plans at a mid-point in their associate career.
Our students receive on-going coaching and mentoring from their Principal, Associate Mentor, Student Program Leaders and in the case of summer students, their Articled Student “Buddy”. |

Students are interested in specific professional development opportunities you provide. Please provide examples. |
We have a very robust student training and orientation program. This involves training on our firm systems and technology, meetings with each of our various departments, including IT, marketing, the library, etc. to get to know the firm’s resources, a student welcome reception and student team-building activities. Throughout the summer, we run a series of breakfast meetings in which we connect the student group with our various legal groups over coffee and muffins, and the students get to learn about the different groups and the types of work we do in the BC region. This is intended to help you get to know the firm and determine what areas you might want to get to know and consider practicing in.
Throughout the articling year, we offer a number of student specific training sessions on topics such as commissioning affidavits, drafting pleadings, and practical tips on timekeeping. Students are also invited to our associate training sessions, which cover both substantive legal skills and knowledge generally, and in respect to specific practice areas, and developments within the industry. |
