Please describe your diversity programs and initiatives Diversity is a key ingredient in the success of our firm as it helps foster inclusiveness, encourages innovation and broadens the scope of problem solving. Attracting top talent and delivering best-in-class services requires a working environment where everyone is able to be themselves; where diversity is respected, and where inclusion is encouraged. Our diverse workplace comprises of individuals with unique backgrounds, characteristics and qualities. Our inclusive culture creates an equitable environment where individuals are respected and where they are welcome. Fasken is committed to diversity and inclusion in all that we do.

Our Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer works with the firm’s leadership (and regional committees) to develop and implement strategies that further solidify a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion at the firm.

Our student committee continually reviews and updates our recruitment process with an eye on equity, diversity and inclusion. We have annual training on disrupting unconscious bias; have each application reviewed by two different lawyers; and use set questions in our student interviews.

Each year, we work with law schools across the country, supporting diverse students through scholarships, sponsorships, mentoring and networking opportunities. Fasken is a signatory of the Law Firm Diversity and Inclusion Network’s Statement of Principles, which work to promote diversity and encourage a culture of inclusion in all participant firms. We have also taken the Black North Initiative Law Firm Pledge, which is focused on attracting and retaining talent from the Black community, as well as increasing efforts to make workplaces trusting places to have complex conversations about anti-Black systemic racism and ensuring that no barriers exist to prevent Black employees from advancing.

Fasken has been an active participant in the Mansfield Rule project since its launch. Fasken is Mansfield Rule 4.0 certified (and participating in the 5.0 certification process), confirming at least 30% women, underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ lawyers and lawyers with disabilities were considered for significant leadership and governance roles at the firm. Fasken has also achieved Mansfield Certification Plus status, which in addition to meeting or exceeding the baseline certification requirements, we have successfully reached at least 30% underrepresented lawyer representation in a notable number of our current leadership roles.
