As we want our students to become our partners, we invest in their professional development. We take our teaching and mentoring obligations very seriously. Both summer and articling students are assigned a mentor to whom students may turn for questions, direction and guidance. Students will receive regular feedback and evaluation from their mentors, as well as direct feedback from the lawyers assigning particular tasks. Articling students ae reviewed twice per rotation. Informal sessions can be held at any time to help with real-world problem-solving.
Our lawyers hold weekly lunch seminars for students, emphasizing both substantive knowledge and skill development. Through these seminars, our students become aware of the firm’s many different practice areas and the tools they need to become outstanding lawyers. Torkin Manes believes ongoing mentoring is a critical aspect of every lawyer’s development. Associates are assigned a mentor for guidance with skills training, client relationship management and training in substantive law. Associates are encouraged to maximum their growth by participating in extensive internal CPD overseen by the Director of Professional Development, but are also provided a budget for use on external programs aligned with their chosen practice area and interests. Job coaching may be extended on a case by case basis. |
