Description of the second year summer program At Lavery, students and articling students are far from being just a number. We take to heart the development of their legal skills as well as the feedback of the mandates they carry out.

Furthermore, we believe it is important to remain consistent with the values we project. Therefore, our structure for delegating mandates to students is based on collaboration and is specifically designed to avoid competition within the student group.

In the course of a Lavery summer, students will be able to participate in a variety of training sessions to facilitate their integration and will be introduced to many areas of law and mandates, through our four main practice groups: business law, litigation and conflit resolution, labour, employment and administrative law, and intellectual property.

In particular, students will have the opportunity to develop their skills in stimulating mandates, such as drafting proceedings, contracts and ancillary documents, organizing and closing business transactions, due diligence in the context of transactions, legal research and analysis, communication with various stakeholders in the files, etc.

Throughout their Lavery summer, students will each be accompanied by a tutor to whom they can refer any questions they may have, in addition to benefiting from the daily supervision of the Manager, Student and Articling Programs, for all matters concerning their well-being and professional development.
Comments We only offer summer employment to students selected for the articling. It is not mandatory to have worked as a student before starting the articling, but it is recommended as the summer employment allows the student to become familiar with the firm's procedures and to assimilate the research methods and tools.
How many weeks is the second year summer program? The employment period begins on or about May 15 and ends on or about August 15 each summer.

Description of articling program Choosing the firm where you will do your articling is a critical step in your early career.

At Lavery, we firmly believe that the students articling with us now will be our firm’s future lawyers, and we are committed to their career development and success. In fact, we are looking for our future colleagues first and foremost. To this end, we recruit a limited number of articling students in order to provide them with personalized supervision and to do everything possible to help them find their place in the firm.

Here are some excellent reasons to do your articling at Lavery:

- As an articling student and future lawyer at our firm, you will have all the tools to achieve your ambitions. Lavery offers a stimulating work environment and exceptional support that is adapted to your goals.

- Once you join Lavery as an articling student, you will work closely with lawyers in various areas of practice. In particular, at our Montreal office, the articling is divided into rotations within our pratice groups. This will allow you to participate in the professional life of the members of each of these groups and will expose you to the broad spectrum of our practice areas. Consequently, your experience as a Lavery articling student will allow you to choose your field of practice according to your real interests.

- Throughout your articling, you will be given real responsibilities that will allow you to take on a variety of challenges and to progress rapidly. Among other things, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills through a wide range of complex mandates, including drafting contracts and legal opinions, representing clients before the courts and other tribunals, meeting with clients, preparing for and participating in examinations, playing a supportive role during negotiations, organizing and closing business transactions, etc.

- Thanks to our corporate culture that emphasizes teamwork and knowledge sharing among our young lawyers and partners, you will have the opportunity to quickly develop your skills and your own network, interact directly with our clients and achieve autonomy in your legal mandates and cases.

- Finally, during your career at Lavery, you will benefit from structured and personalized support according to your needs. In particular, you will be assigned a maître de stage and a junior lawyer upon your arrival, who will ensure that you receive their expertise and support, while promoting your integration and the realization of your full potential. In addition, the professional development team will also be there for you on a daily basis.
