Description of the second year summer program Each year we hire six or seven summer students and expect that all of those summer students will return to article with us the following year after they graduate from law school.

Our students, whether summer or articling, rotate through our three main practice areas by completing rotations in Business (including Regulatory), Employment & Labour, and Litigation. We believe in giving you hands-on responsibilities so that you have the opportunity to learn and grow through actual experience. You’ll be involved in a variety of tasks such as assisting lawyers with trials and other court proceedings, arbitrations and tribunal work, helping corporate lawyers with closings and due diligence on transactions, and researching and writing memos on various areas of the law. While bilingualism is not required, there are opportunities to work in both English and French.

As we don’t have a formal work allocation system, you will have the opportunity to shape your own experience and the files you work on, as well as be responsible for managing your own time. You will be paired with a formal mentor who will provide guidance and support as you transition into your career as a lawyer. In addition, many of our lawyers (including our Student Committee) are actively involved in the student program and are invested in the development of our students.

You will also participate in our comprehensive orientation and continuing legal education program for our students! These programs focus on developing both legal skills (e.g., research, drafting and advocacy) and business skills (e.g., networking and professional matters).

While working and learning are enjoyable, we also host both formal and informal social events that will help you to get to know other students and members of the firm.

In addition, you’ll participate in our comprehensive articling orientation and continuous learning and development program designed specifically to advance the knowledge and skills of our students.
