Please describe your diversity programs and initiatives Diversity and inclusion

Inclusivity is integral to our business. By creating an environment where people can be themselves, we ensure everyone is at their most engaged and productive – and as a global operation we rely on the range of perspectives that only a truly diverse workforce can offer.

This is a real commitment on our part, and we expect all our people to take responsibility for it. At the very least, this means being curious about the people around you and learning about the different perspectives of colleagues and clients. But there will also be lots of opportunities for you to get directly involved in our Pride network, our Women’s network and other initiatives we have around all our offices.

Actions speak louder

Our target is to increase the percentage of female partners globally, to 40% by 2030, with the same percentage of female partners represented on all Board and Management Committees globally. Our Global Executive Committee already has 36% female representation and our board has 42% female representation. Currently 28% of the partnership are women, a 6% increase since 2010.

Our Unconscious bias training programme launched in 2016 and since then we have worked to implement additional learning opportunities to deepen our knowledge collectively on topics such as implicit gender bias, anti-racism and cultural competency. We integrate this knowledge in a practical way by using data to hold everyone accountable for mitigating unconscious bias in our recruitment and promotion processes.

As member of our firm, you could join one of our employee network groups. For example, Women in Norton Rose Fulbright (WiN) aim to create networking and professional development opportunities and advance gender parity. Our LGBTQ and allies network, Pride at Norton Rose Fulbright (for LGBTQ staff and allies) focuses on fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all people within the LGBTQ community, both within Norton Rose Fulbright and from our client base. Pride is open to absolutely everyone and many join the network as allies. Both networks regularly hosts social and networking events for our people and clients. Join and you will get to engage in positive changes that shape our working culture. You will also get to meet, and share experiences, with colleagues at all levels from right across the practice. We also have an Origins network focussing on racial equity and inclusion, an Indigenous Relations network helping us as the firm to advance reconciliation, a Breathe network supporting our mental health and wellness strategy and a diversity book club in Toronto called Novel.
