Description of first year summer program:	Please note: Our Toronto office only participates in the first year and articling recruitment processes. The Toronto office does not participate in the 2L recruitment process. At Dentons Canada LLP we value teamwork and empower our colleagues to succeed. Our Toronto Summer Student Program is designed to provide you with a valuable learning experience in order to help you develop your legal skills in a practical context. As a first-year Summer Student, you will participate in two of the following rotations: Corporate/Securities, Banking & Finance, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Employment & Labour, Tax, and Commercial Real Estate. Choosing two rotations allows you to try different practice groups while ensuring that you gain a sufficient depth of experience in each of your areas of interest. To succeed in our changing world, we believe it is important to develop lawyers who have a broad outlook and practical understanding of our client needs. As such, we are committed to developing our team with all-around skills and strong business acumen. To deliver on this strategy, we have designed a comprehensive orientation and professional development schedule to ensure you are set up for success from the very start of your career. This training includes newly designed corporate simulation modules and a formal second-year secondment program in which all returning Summer Students participate. Recognizing that continued growth and development is about more than just legal skills, the Firm has also placed significant emphasis on mental health and developed programs to support your resiliency and wellbeing. Building a large network and having access to invested mentors is also key to your success. You will be assigned a partner and an associate mentor in each rotation. As a result, one-to-one relationships are fostered across the Firm and with lawyers who have expertise in your areas of interest. Mentors are responsible for helping you meet lawyers in your rotation and for monitoring your workflow. They will ensure that you are exposed to a variety of matters during the course of your time with the practice group. Mentors are also a valuable resource, who can help you identify and access work in particular areas that are based on your specific interests. Finally, students participate in a fun social calendar throughout their term, which allows them to get to know each other and lawyers at the firm in casual settings.

Description of the second year summer program	Please note: Our Toronto office only participates in the first year and articling recruitment processes. The Toronto office does not participate in the 2L recruitment process. Students hired in their first year and returning as second-year summer students will continue to develop their legal skills and business acumen through another comprehensive orientation and professional development schedule, which includes new simulation modules and programs developed to further support your resiliency and wellbeing. In your second summer in the Toronto office, you will rotate through one practice group and participate in our secondment program. You will choose one of the following practice groups for half of your summer term: Corporate/Securities, Banking & Finance, Litigation, Employment and Pensions, Tax, and Commercial Real Estate. For the other half of your summer term, you will also participate in our formal secondment program with the in-house departments of one of our clients. This program is designed to help you develop a better understanding of a client’s business and their needs, while developing foundational client relationship skills. Just as in your first summer, building a large network and having access to invested mentors remains key to your success, and so you will be assigned a partner and an associate mentor while at the Firm. This will allow for the fostering of one-to-one relationships across the Firm with lawyers who have expertise in your areas of interest. Mentors continue to be responsible for helping you meet lawyers in your rotation and for monitoring your workflow. Description of articling program	Please note: Our Toronto office only participates in the first year and articling recruitment processes. The Toronto office does not participate in the 2L recruitment process. As an Articling student you will gain broad hands-on experience throughout the year by working directly with partners, associates, clients, and other members of our team. Our Articling Program is designed to be flexible, allowing you to participate in all of the major practice areas, while also pursuing your own interests. You will develop a thorough understanding of the practice of law in each of the departments through which you choose to rotate. As an Articling Student, you will rotate through four rotations within the following groups: Banking & Finance, Corporate, Real Estate, Tax, Litigation, and Employment & Labour. Off-site rotations in the form of secondments are also available with our corporate clients or a government agency. Working closely with lawyers from each practice area, you will gain exposure to a wide variety of legal matters and have the opportunity to draft documents, meet with clients, conduct legal research, interview witnesses, appear in court, etc. With the ongoing support from our Director of Talent, Recruitment and Student Development, members of our Student Committee, your Articling Principal and rotation and term Mentors, we ensure that you are provided with counsel throughout your Articling term and are set up for success as you start your legal career.
