Please describe your diversity programs and initiatives Maintaining a healthy workplace has always been at the heart of the firm’s concerns. Throughout its history, long before the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and Quebec’s Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, the firm has prioritized recruiting the most motivated and competent people, regardless of their gender, ethnic origin, religion, or any other criterion based on socio-cultural affiliation, orientation, opinions or allegiances.

This open-mindedness has paid off. Nowadays, few medium-sized law firms comparable to RSS can proudly claim that women occupy 50% of their decision-making positions and that their socio-cultural diversity is such that its members speak more than 15 languages.

In our view, the only hiring criterion that counts is the ability and desire to offer the best possible service and to cooperate to form a harmonious team.

Please list the various initiatives your firm has undertaken related to providing an accessible workplace and barrier free culture for people with disabilities, as well as any information you may be able to share regarding the types accommodations provided. At RSS, we believe that offering a workplace accessible to persons with disabilities is essential. We also attach importance to an open-door policy, where each member of the firm, regardless of his titles or years of service is welcome without judgment and with respect, confidentiality and kindness when experiencing needs related to physical or mental health.

Initiatives on this matter are multi dimensional:

-Physical access: We are open to providing various accommodations to allow a candidate to take part in the recruitment process. If needed, we also make every effort to ensure that an employee with disability will be able to perform the essential functions of her or his work. Access ramps, automatic doors, service elevators and escalators facilitate access to our building and offices. We are continuously optimizing our workspaces, and additional enhancements are programmed on a short term.

-Technological accessibility: We understand the importance of having access to technology tools. We are open minded and flexible as to the improvement of our current infrastructure.

-Awareness: We make efforts to eliminate barriers by inviting our members to challenge stereotypes and unconscious biases. With the firm’s Workplace Health and Psychological Welfare Programme, numerous members took part in a conference on unconscious biases.

The health and welfare of our members are central to our preoccupations. We make no compromise and continue to implement initiatives towards that goal:
-A mental health program
-Virtual healthcare offered, including a stress management element (Lumino Santé)
-Access to a total conscience meditation application (Headspace)
-Fitting out a common workspace to facilitate sharing ideas and concerns
-Ergonomic workstations
-Flexible arrangements for remote work
-Various training sessions for our professionals, employees, and managers
