| Description of the second year summer program | Goodmans' summer program is not merely an abridged version of articling. We know that the summer goes by quickly and that students want to get the most out of it so we are very flexible in tailoring the summer to individual students' needs. We assign mentors to work directly with each student and we work hard to ensure that students see first-hand what being a lawyer at Goodmans is like. Summer students will observe how a lawyer handles all aspects of their cases or transactions, attend client meetings and court proceedings, contribute ideas, work on substantive matters and actively participate in firm life. We also know that the key to a happy, successful and gratifying work life is a supportive, friendly environment. So we organize a wide variety of social activities that enable our students to develop strong bonds as a group, and to get to know lawyers at the firm. At the end of the summer, students come away from Goodmans with a solid understanding of the practical application of law and a sense of what it is like to practice law at Goodmans. Visit our student website, view our videos, and/or our Instagram account in order to learn more from our students and lawyers about their experiences at the firm. |

| Description of articling program | Our articling program works on a rotation basis to give students exposure to four different areas of the firm. Students can choose from rotations in Business law, Real Estate law, Corporate Restructuring, Taxation, Litigation and Municipal and Land Development. As each student has different goals and interests, we look to the students to play an active role in selecting the areas of practice which are right for them and we continually meet with students during the year to re-assess those choices. Each student is paired with a mentor/Articling Principal throughout the year, and each section of the firm has its own additional junior and senior mentors who meet with the students on a regular basis throughout that rotation to discuss workload, offer feedback, and generally provide guidance. Students are provided with hands on experiential training, supplemented with extensive legal education programs and ongoing feedback, including formal midterm reviews and final reviews at the end of each rotation. |
