Diversity & Inclusion

Please describe your diversity programs and initiatives Our diversity is a strength that benefits both our people and our clients. It fosters a welcoming, accepting and supportive environment where all our people can bring their whole selves to work and realize their career potential is a priority. This commitment is integral to our business approach. By encouraging our people to contribute their varied backgrounds, experiences and perspectives we embrace diversity. We can better understand our client's needs in diverse markets and engage with the communities in which we operate. We believe our differences are what make us stronger and actively promote a culture that values each individual, encouraging and creating inclusion.

STRATEGY

To build a culture that integrates action and accountability , both culturally and institutionally, for instance developing inclusive leadership capability, supporting diverse talent, and partnering with our clients to further our efforts collectively.

• Our leaders champion the values of equity, diversity and inclusion
• We establish targets, metrics, KPIs, and track and report on our progress
• We drive the attraction, selection, retention, inclusion and career progression of diverse talent
• We embed diversity and inclusion in our discussions and decisions
• We demonstrate leadership in diversity and inclusion to clients and the external community

WHAT WE WANT TO ACHIEVE

Women : Increase the number of women in partnership and leadership roles to achieve 40:40:20 (40% women; 40% men; 20% flexible) by 2030. Currently 30% of our Management Committee and 27% of our partnership are women. We have been awarded a gender parity certification by Women in Governance in recognition of our work towards achieving parity.
Race equity: Attract and retain BIPOC talent (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) to reflect the communities in which we do business. Currently 23% of our firm identify as BIPOC.
• As part of our Black North commitment we have pledged to
- commit to hiring at least 5% of our student workforce from the Black community
- set a goal of, at a minimum, 3.5% of executive, board and/or senior leadership roles based in Canada being held by Black or racialized leaders by 2025
- ensure 3.5% of those roles are held by Black leaders by 2030.
• We intend to become a Progressive Aboriginal Relations Certified employer by 2025.
LGBTQI+ Inclusion: Create a more inclusive environment for LGBTQI+ colleagues and clients. We have a leading trans inclusion policy and encourage colleagues to opt in to displaying their pronouns.
Disability confidence: Become a disability confident organization where accessibility is the norm. Please speak to a member of our team if you require any adjustments or accommodations during recruitment or events.
Generations: Engage and re-engage with people taking and returning from parental leave and increase retention following leave. Offer flexibility and a variety of ways of working to improve well-being, engagement and retention for all life-stages.

When people are accepted and valued for who they are, they truly thrive. When businesses foster diversity, they attract and retain talent. When diversity flourishes, so does fresh thinking, creativity and innovation. It’s a win-win.
