Description of the second year summer program	Our summer program is intended to serve as an introduction to the practice of law. Most of our summer students have little, if any, previous experience in a law firm, and our summer program is designed as the first step in the transition from the academic study of law to the practice of law. We arrange temporary articles for our summer students to enable them to experience life as an articled student. Summer students receive the same range of work as our articled students, but do not participate in a formal rotation; we encourage our summer students to take advantage of the program's flexibility and to explore specific areas of interest - to see whether a particular type of law is as interesting in practice as in the classroom. Summer students are, of course, also encouraged to participate in the firm's various social activities. Each summer student receives guidance and support from the student's principal, and from our Director of Student Programs. We present a series of seminars, specifically for our summer students, to discuss practice-related topics such as conflicts of interest, the business of law, professional civility and courtesy, risk management, and effective client communication. Our students are also encouraged to attend other firm-wide in-house professional development seminars.
Comments	Students are able to work with all lawyers in the office and gain valuable experience through work in their various areas of expertise. Students are afforded the unique opportunity to develop a close working relationship with all of the lawyers, including senior partners. Students are also exposed to as much direct client contact as they feel comfortable handling. Each student is paired with a mentor, who acts as an invaluable source of knowledge, support and guidance as the student is introduced to the practice of law. Regular seminars are presented, at which various legal topics are discussed. Students are welcome at our regular summer social events, as well as at our other informal gatherings.

Description of articling program	Our articling rotation system enables articled students to receive broad exposure to different areas of practice, while giving them the opportunity to work with as many lawyers as possible. This ensures a comprehensive articling experience and assists students in choosing an area of practice after articles. During their first week articled students are involved in extensive orientation and training sessions. We also offer a series of lunchtime seminars. Although students work under supervision, every effort is made to give each student as much responsibility as they can comfortably handle. Articled students also choose an associate as a mentor for the articling year. Social events are scheduled throughout the year.
