Comments At Farris we encourage our lawyers and students to become involved in the provision of public interest legal services. Lawyers and students in the firm are engaged in a wide variety of such endeavours, including through our formal partnership with Access Pro Bono Society of BC. Through this collaboration, our students and lawyers have committed to take on a steady stream of no-cost legal work in a variety of both corporate and litigation focused sectors. Our lawyers also independently participate in other Access Pro Bono Society of BC Roster Programs and Legal Aid, and run Small Claims Court trials on behalf of pro bono clients. These sources are not exhaustive and we encourage our students and associates to seek out other opportunities to become involved in pro bono law and gain trial experience.

The firm support of pro bono legal service is based first and foremost on the duty of lawyers, as professionals, to contribute to the welfare of the community. In addition, pro bono opportunities provide valuable experience for students and younger lawyers in the firm and the opportunity for lawyers of all ages actively involved in the community. Student involvement in pro bono activities is an important factor in a student’s professional development and a willingness to serve and become involved with the community is evidence of a level in maturity and professionalism which is highly prized by the firm.

Farris is also pleased to support the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation. The Foundation has provided more than 800 social entrepreneurs with critical legal assistance in 75 countries. Through our longstanding and rewarding partnership with Lex Mundi we can all continue to work to strengthen the global pro bono culture and to improve lives and communities around the world, not just here at home.
