Please describe your diversity programs and initiatives Fasken is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. We are proud of every individual in our strong and dynamic workforce, and know that our diversity drives our innovative, collaborative, and strategic approaches to clients' needs.

The Firm’s leadership, our Chief Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer and our national Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee are committed to the development and implementation of a strategy that further solidifies the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion into the Firm’s culture, and addresses racism and systemic discrimination.

Fasken is committed to addressing and ending anti-Black and other forms of structural racism in the legal profession. As part of that commitment, Fasken has signed the BlackNorth Initiative Law Firm Pledge, and is part of a partnership of 14 law firms that have committed $1.75 million to the Black Future Lawyers Program. In partnership with ICON Talent Partners, we are working to connect diverse candidates with opportunities in corporate law. Our partnership includes a national mentorship and scholarship program for ten incoming 1L Black and Indigenous students at Canadian law schools.

We have many award-winning affinity resource groups including the Ontario Women’s Network ("OWN") and our Fasken Pride Network, and are involved in many external organizations and initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion, including the Black Partners on Bay Street Network, the Canadian Association for Urban Financial Professionals, and Young Women in Law. We are involved with the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers and the National Bar Association (“NBA”), a Black lawyers’ association in the United States. One of our Partners recently completed a term on the NBA Board of Governors and as Chair of the NBA Commercial Law Section, where he continues to serve on the Executive Committee. We also actively participate in and support the Law Firm Mentoring Program of the Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS), providing mentorship to students at a Toronto high school.

Fasken is Mansfield Rule 4.0 certified, which requires that for at least 70% of all significant leadership and governance roles at the firm, at least 30% of the candidates considered are women, underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ lawyers with disabilities. We were the only largely Canadian-based firm among the original 30 pilot law firms to commit to the Mansfield Rule.

As part of our commitment to maintaining an inclusive and diverse firm every member of our student recruitment and development committee has received diversity and inclusion training, and we have offered ally training to all Ontario practice group leaders. Our hiring selection criteria are placed at the forefront when considering law student candidates to ensure that our recruitment process is fair and merit based.

Our firm is committed to ensuring a safe, dignified and accessible environment that respects the needs of all visitors. If you are invited for an interview, please notify us of any particular adaptive measures you might require. Any information you send us will be handled respectfully and in complete confidence.

If you wish to speak with a firm member regarding a specific diversity question, please contact Eowynne Noble who will be happy to make appropriate introductions.
